What to Do in Austin in the Spring
While visiting Austin in the spring, take in the country music scene and make some time to two-step to live music at The Broken Spoke. If you are visiting in March, consider attending South by Southwest Conference and Festivals. This year’s SXSW line-up looks amazing! Where to Eat in Austin
Be sure to make reservations at Uchi (sushi) or Uchiko (Japanese farmhouse cuisine). Executive chef and co-owner, Tyson Cole, is a James Beard Award winner. Insider tip: Both restaurants have happy hours featuring price cuts on popular dishes. And you can’t visit Austin without eating at a food truck. Consider Via 313 for phenomenal Detroit-style pizza (they also have several brick-and-mortar locations). Patrizi’s food truck is an excellent choice for fresh-made pasta and Gourdoughs food truck has fabulous dessert doughnuts! And if you’re in the mood for tacos, La Tunita (for birria tacos) and Veracruz All Natural are great bets. You’ll also want to make time one afternoon to grab a New Zealand style ice cream at Zed’s in East Austin. Our personal favorite is their vanilla base blended with fresh pineapple, drizzled with la lechera and topped with tajin and toasted coconut. Honestly, drooling just thinking about it.
Where to Road Trip From Austin
Hungry for barbecue? Get in line at Franklin Barbecue (in east Austin, so it’s not a road trip, but do expect long lines). Or check out The Salt Lick in Driftwood (just outside of Austin) for lunch and then spend a couple of hours visiting the wineries on the Driftwood Wine Trail. Spring is the best time to see Texas wildflowers as they are especially gorgeous this time of the year; and this is a good area to take in some beautiful wildflower views.
